Alice Ko

Alice Ko has been building with natural materials for 13 years. With a degree in Design and Environmental Analysis from Cornell University, she has since been focused on finding ways to take ecological responsibility in the construction industry. Having worked for the Green Affordable Housing Coalition in the Bay Area, her interests in environmental stewardship and sustainability lead her to an internship at the Solar Living Institute in Northern California. There, she began building with cob and straw bale while living off-grid. Seeing how natural building can empower people by creating their own healthy, creative home, Alice became passionate about furthering her exploration. This journey led her to Taos, NM to study Earthships and has since been her home for the past 12 years. With her experience using cob, she learned to make adobe bricks while living in NM and built a small off-grid home. During the building process, she hosted workshops teaching women basic carpentry and how to make adobes. She continues to reach out to the community to share this traditional technique with demonstrations at the Taos Farmer’s Market. For the past 5 years, Alice has been working construction and is excited to share her experience through workshops, where she can combine her building skills with her love of natural materials.
